Meet Herbies brother HOMER!!

I sure did, he was hanging out on our back porch today, WAY to close for my personal comfort.

The bite of a Gila monster has been variously described as "forceful", "bull-dog like", " crushing", "crunching", "firm", "grasping", "seizing" and "tenacious". Having bitten, Gila monsters are given to holding onto the victims for up to 15 minutes. While a considerable amount of venom is released.

When bitten the author suggest it is important to disengage the lizard as soon as possible (duh!) Either place a strong stick between the rear of the jaw and the bitten part and apply pressure, hold an open flame under his bottom jaw or immerse the extremity and attached lizard in some water. Lastly, should nothing else work, the lizard may be grasped by the tail and jerked from the bite! This may result in some tissue damage, but at least you won't have Gila monster dangling from your arm or leg.
