on Memorial Day. We stayed in Rustler's Park.. apparently the rustlers used to drive stolen cows all the way up this mountain to the meadow and rebrand them and drive them back down.
If I were a cow, I would rebel, it was a long haul up to this place in a car .. on four hooves, forget it!!!
What a fabulous place, this camping area was at about 8000 feet. The camping is in the forest, but just below us was a meadow filled with wild IRIS!
It was amazing..
There was lots of wild life (although we didn't see any bears!)
Here is a fawn, we saw it and 3 other dear.. the next picture is of Max chasing the fawn.
He claims he was going to make friends with it and perhaps bring it home.
In case you didn't believe me before, here is a picture of the wild IRIS in the meadow.
We took a good hike up the mountain and discovered we could see the wild fire burning to the east of us.
A bush filled with lady bugs ( many of which made the trip back to Tucson with us.)
A historic fire watch tower
and thousands and thousands of pine cones!!!!!
